We consider it essential for hotels, water sports schools, and community projects to have staff with water rescue skills and knowledge of first aid and CPR. This adds safety and a professional image to their activities, while also enhancing the tourist destination and improving life opportunities for young lifeguards.

Below, we share information about the upcoming Happy Dolphins DR lifeguard training course in Cabarete, which runs over five days: June 23-27, 2026.

Thanks to the support of the National Center for the Promotion and Development of Nonprofit Associations (CASFL), the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, and the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development (MEPyD), Happy Dolphins will launch the program: Safe Coasts in the Dominican Republic 2026.
This year, we will provide free certification to 60 new lifeguards in three major tourist destinations across the country, beginning at Miches, the premier new destination on the eastern coast.
Includes training in first aid, CPR and AED, as well as instruction in rescue techniques for pools, open water, and surf (waves).
Please make sure you are in good physical condition before taking this course. We recommend training and/or taking swimming lessons; this will help you successfully complete this rigorous course.

Each participant must meet the minimum physical fitness requirements. Full details are available in our YouTube video below.

On the last day of training, you must take an exam. Once you have passed all tests, you will be a lifeguard certified by Happy Dolphins DR, the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, and American Aquatics and Safety Training (USA).

The certification is valid for two years. If you wish to continue your career as a lifeguard, you must take a recertification course.
