WHAT IS LEARNED IN LIFEGUARD TRAINING?
Lifeguard training covers a wide range of interesting topics, teaching students about water safety, rescue techniques, the human body, and how to handle accidents and sudden illnesses that may occur. Some of the topics covered include:
-
How to quickly and safely enter a pool to rescue a swimmer in distress, whether they are conscious or unconscious.
-
The functions and effective use of different types of rescue equipment.
-
How to treat wounds, including burns, punctures, bleeding, and amputations.
-
How to identify sudden illnesses, such as diabetic emergencies, shock, or strokes, and the necessary actions to help the victim.
-
The symptoms of a heart attack and the differences in symptoms between men and women.
-
How to assist a person who is choking, whether it's an infant or an adult.

A five-day course taught by professional instructors from American Aquatics
and Safety Training, a prestigious New York institution.
The significance of this training session is that these trainers will in turn be able to certify multiple lifeguards in the north shore and throughout the country.
“The goal is to create decent jobs, educate the Dominican youth in swimming and lifesaving techniques so that our destination is at the level of destinations like Canada, Australia,
and Hawaii.”
Patricia Hiraldo, Happy Dolphins Founder

Conditions were fierce, with strong gusts and 5 feet waves as tropical storm weather took over the first few days of training; perfect for honing strong, fearless lifesavers.
