To enroll in our Lifeguard Courses, candidates must be able to do the following in both the pool and the ocean:
Swim 300 yards continuously.
Swim using the Front Crawl or Breast Stroke. Your legs and arms must be continuously moving, and your head goes underwater after each breath.
You must not stop at the wall.
You want to show your instructor breath control and rhythmic breathing.
Tread water for 2 minutes using your legs only.
Your hands can be vertical out of the water or tucked into your armpits.
Do a surface dive and must retrieve a 10lb brick from a depth of 7 feet.
You will then return to the surface, and swim to the other end of the pool with the brick held to your chest. You are swimming using only your legs.
